Welcome to 2025 at Cannons Creek School. You will have noticed some changes over the holidays, our hall is a new colour, we are now moving our office back to the refurbished “Rangituhi” building.
As of this week the only gate for entry and exit from the school is the front gate – the side gate on the way to Nuanua Kindergarten was always a temporary measure while our site was restricted with building works. We have appreciated both the kindergarten’s and the PIC church’s understanding but know they are looking forward to less traffic on that side road.
Along with the building changes we are also excited to welcome some new teachers this term
Miss Paige – Kapowai
Whaea Nora – Kawakawa
Whaea Ange – Kōwhai
Ms Borrer – Tuna
We are all looking forward to working together for a great year of learning.
Ngā mihi

All classes have swimming lessons on Wednesday afternoon. We consider this a vital skill for all Kiwi kids and an important part of our school curriculum. Please make sure your child comes with their togs and towel.
The junior classes would welcome any parent help so please see your child’s teacher if you have time available.

In 2024 we had 4 students with attendance for the full year of 98%, this year we would like to see even more than that, even some at 100%.
High attendance leads to high achievement!
Every day matters!

Our Reading data for 2024 showed 66% of our students reading at or above the curriculum level expected for their age this was up from 61% in 2023 so a 5% improvement.
There continues to be a difference in reading achievement between girls and boys, 2024 saw 68% of our girls achieving at expectation while only 57% of boys were.
We will be aiming for continued progress in 2025, aiming to increase achievement to over 70%.
Whanau can support us in this goal by encouraging reading together at home, asking your children to retell books they have had at school, visiting the library together or even just reading road signs, every bit helps.
